How to Make Popcorn without a Microwave

Popcorn is a great, healthy snack to satisfy that movie theater craving. Popcorn is naturally a whole grain fiber rich, and calorie-light. However, we load it up with stuff thats not good for us – salt, butter, chemicals. Takes a good-for-you food into a questionable snack. Avoid the movie theater line and the expensive microwave bags and try making it yourself! It is 10 times cheaper per ounce ($.06 vs. $.67 per ounce) and is easier to control what you add to it. You can eat a lot of popcorn for not a lot of calories, so pop away!

1. Spray the bottom of a stock pot with cooking spray.

2. Add 1/4-1/3 cup of popcorn kernels.

3. Allow to rest over a medium-high heat while they begin to heat. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.

4. When they begin to brown, cover the pot and start to shake lightly.

5. When the popping noise begins, remove from heat and begin to shake more vigorously.

6. Keep the lid closed and continue shaking until the popping has stopped. Opening the lid will let the hot air out and will lead to more unpopped kernels.

7. Season as desired. I personally use 2 tbsp of canola oil and a small handful of kosher salt. Start with less salt and oil than you think you need and increase them from there. Cover with the lid and shake to coat the popcorn. Taste and adjust seasoning accordingly.

You have no idea how much I love you for sharing this. :D I’m sort of a klutz when it comes to popping corn.

Stumbled upon you in the Freshly Pressed section, btw. :)
